Why is Niseko a great choice for your leave ?
Niseko and Hokkaido in general are simply one the world’s premier adventure destinations.
Whilst Niseko is well known for its winter season as attracting the world’s most consistent and lightest powder snow, we feel that its best kept secret is what Niseko can offer the summer visitor.
Niseko Military Leave was established to provide packaged holiday options in Niseko for members of the United States armed forces and their immediate families. If are a civilian contractor but actively engaged with a base in Japan you also may be eligible.
For those contemplating the 2021 season there is an additional bonus. Niseko usually attracts over 700,000 visitors a year but with the international borders closed there is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ski arguably the world’s best powder resort without the crowds and with discount pricing. This is not the season to miss!
But first we have to talk about the snow.
Niseko gets around 12 metres of snowfall per year with most of it falling as light dry powder with lots of air trapped inside. The unique Hokkaido snow allows for advanced riders to float over the pow and beginners will also appreciate falling on a much forgiving surface.
Niseko United is made up of four individuals resorts that climb the sides of the impressive Mount Annupuri and meet at the summit.
This means that you can always find a side of the mountain that is most favourable to the wind, light and snowfall that has occurred. In short, a trip to Niseko means you have a very high change of experiencing amazing Japanese powder.
With over 48km of ski runs there is always something to discover even for us locals who have been riding here for years.
Visiting Niseko should be on your absolute to-do list whilst you are based in Japan or even visiting from other bases.
